Scream Mixed Media Project

Thursday 10/13/2016 - 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

This is going to be so much fun!!  We cannot wait to see what kids 8 and up come up with for this great mixed media project with individual design possibilities.  Kids will paint the classic Scream Painting and then add their choice of scary objects creating a 3D effect and sealing with decoupage.  During the class kids will be asked to create items that are “scary” and even make a scary face in the mirror and draw it.  Then each of those items will be added to the Scream painting.  Super fun!

About the painting “The Scream” and the artist: Edvard Munch was a Norwegian artist born in 1863. As with most artists, much of Munch’s subject matter came directly from his life experiences. From the death of family members to love lost, the images in his art were at times too much for the general public to bear. Munch was often called the first of the Expressionists. One of Munch’s most famous works is “The Scream,” an image of modern angst that he painted four versions of, between 1893 and 1910. It is generally thought that Munch drew his inspiration for the sky that serves as the background from the vivid red twilights seen in Europe from November 1883 through February 1884, caused by debris thrown into the atmosphere by the great volcanic eruption on the island of Krakatoa in Indonesia.
