(No Experience Needed)
Walking into a creative studio for the first time can feel exciting… and a little intimidating.
What do I choose?
What if I’m not “artsy”?
How messy is this going to get?
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s really like to visit Burst of Butterflies Create & Paint Studio for the first time, this post is for you. Whether you’re coming with kids, meeting friends, planning a date night, or just looking for something fun to do, we’re here to make your first visit easy, welcoming, and genuinely enjoyable.
The Moment You Walk In
From the moment you step through our doors, our goal is simple: help you feel comfortable and supported.
You’ll be greeted by a friendly team member who will walk you through how everything works and help you decide what to create. There’s no rush and no pressure — we’ll meet you where you are, whether that’s “I have no idea what I’m doing” or “I’ve been waiting all week to get creative.”
Our studios are designed to feel bright, relaxed, and welcoming — a place where kids, teens, adults, and grandparents all feel at home.
Choosing Your Project (This Is Easier Than You Think)
One of the biggest worries we hear is, “What if I pick the wrong thing?”
Good news: there is no wrong choice here.
Depending on the day and the experience you choose, you may be able to:
- Paint pottery
- Paint a canvas
- Hand-build with clay
- Try wheel throwing (in classes or special sessions)
Our team will help you choose something that fits:
- Your time frame
- Your comfort level
- Your age group
- Your creative goals (or lack thereof — that’s totally okay!)
If you’re visiting with kids, we’ll suggest projects that are age-appropriate and fun. If you’re on a date or with friends, we’ll point you toward options that are relaxed and social.
“But I’m Not Artistic…”
This might be the most common thing we hear — and we promise you’re not alone.
You do not need:
- Any prior art experience
- Any special skills
- Any artistic confidence
We provide:
- Step-by-step guidance (as much or as little as you want)
- Examples for inspiration
- A supportive team that genuinely loves helping people succeed
Some guests follow instructions closely. Others go completely off script. Both approaches are celebrated here.
How Long Does It Take?
Most walk-in projects take 1.5 to 2 hours, though you’re welcome to take more or less time depending on the project and studio flow.
If you’re on a tighter schedule, let us know — we’ll help guide you toward something that fits comfortably within your time window.
How Messy Is It, Really?
We’ll be honest: creativity can get a little messy — but in a fun way.
We provide:
- Aprons
- Easy-to-clean materials
Although acrylics may not easily wash out of fabrics, most glazes and clay wash easily.
You may not leave covered in paint or clay, and kids don’t need to dress “for a disaster.” Most guests are pleasantly surprised by how manageable it is.
What Happens After You’re Done?
This depends on what you make:
- Painted pottery or clay pieces stay with us to dry and be fired in our kilns.
- We’ll let you know when your piece is ready for pickup (usually about two weeks).
- Canvas paintings go home with you the same day.
We clearly explain the timeline before you start, so there are no surprises.
Kids, Adults, and Mixed Groups Are All Welcome
Burst of Butterflies is designed for all ages.
We regularly host:
- Kids and families
- Teens
- Adults
- Couples
- Multi-generation groups
Everyone works at their own pace, and our staff is great at adjusting guidance so everyone feels included and supported.
The Most Important Thing to Know
You don’t need a reservation to enjoy creativity here
(although larger groups of five or more should consider a reservation especially on busy weekends and holidays)
You don’t need experience.
You don’t need to be “good at art.”
You just need a little curiosity and a willingness to try something new.
We’ll take care of the rest.
Ready to Visit?
Whether you stop in on a whim or plan ahead, we’d love to create with you. Every piece made here tells a story — and your first visit is often the beginning of a favorite new tradition.
