Professional kiln firing services for ceramic and glass work created outside of Burst of Butterflies.
Have work you’ve created at home, in a classroom, or at another studio? We offer external kiln firing services for ceramic and glass pieces at our Chandler location.
This service is designed for artists who already understand their materials and firing needs and are looking for a professional, reliable kiln environment.
What We Fire
We currently offer firing services for:
- Ceramic / pottery pieces
- Bisque firing
- Glaze firing
- Glass pieces
- Fused glass projects
All pieces must be completely dry and ready for firing at drop-off.
Required Information (Must Be Provided at Drop-Off)
Because every clay body, glaze, and glass product fires differently, you must know and provide the following information for each piece:
- Clay type and manufacturer
- Target firing cone or temperature
- Type of firing
- Bisque
- Glaze
- Glass
- Any special firing notes
- Heavy glaze application
- Mixed materials
- Thickness or structural concerns
👉 We do not test, guess, or determine firing schedules for external work.
If this information is missing or unclear, we may decline to fire the piece.
Artist Responsibility & Risk Acknowledgement
By using our external firing service, you acknowledge that:
- You are fully responsible for the accuracy of all firing information provided
- Burst of Butterflies is not responsible for cracking, warping, glaze defects, color results, or breakage
- Kiln outcomes can vary even when correct information is provided
External firing is done at your own risk.
Damage & Kiln Shelf Policy
To protect our kilns and equipment:
- Any piece that damages kiln shelves, kiln furniture, or equipment due to incorrect firing information may result in a $75 damage fee
- This most commonly occurs when:
- Incorrect cone or temperature is provided
- Glaze runs excessively due to mislabeling
- Incompatible materials are fired together
This fee helps cover shelf grinding, replacement, and kiln maintenance.
Drop-Off & Turnaround
- Pieces are fired based on kiln availability and appropriate firing cycles
- Turnaround times vary and are not guaranteed
- We will notify you when your work is ready for pickup
Not Sure About Your Clay or Glaze?
If you don’t know:
- The clay body
- The cone
- The firing type
This service is not a good fit yet.
We’re happy to recommend:
- In-studio classes
- Open studio options
- Materials we carry and fire regularly
So you can build confidence before firing independently.
Pricing below applies only to external firing work that meets all requirements listed above.
